The second annual AIR MILES For Business Small Business Achievement Awards celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit in Canada and recognizes some of the country’s rising stars.
Held on February 23, 2015, awards were presented in five categories: Small Business of the Year, Start-up of the Year, Innovation of the Year, Social Responsibility and Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
Winners received a mentoring session with top business leader; 10,000 AIR MILES reward miles; a profile in Canadian Business magazine; airfare and accommodations to the Toronto awards ceremony.At the event, Barb Stegemann, founder of The 7 Virtues Beauty Inc. and a Dragon's Den "Top Game Changer", gave an inspirational keynote address to launch the day. Part motivational speech and part practical information for other entrepreneurs, Stegemann spoke of her compelling journey to become a business owner with a special focus on social responsibility.
Other speakers included Kelly Lovell, who provided insights on how to engage the increasingly important millennial market; Dr. Sean Wise, Dragons’ Den advisor and TV host, on small business finance; Mia Pearson, co-founder of North Strategic public relations firm and the winner of last year's Small Business of the Year award; and Tim Wilson, head of industry at Google Canada, who demonstrated how small businesses can increase their results on Google search.
